Upgrading to HID lights is easier and more affordable than ever. We understand that many people go the EBay route when it comes to buying a HID conversion kit, we know those kits on EBay are cheap and we realize many customers are focused on the most affordable product. We also realize the mentality, well if does go out I can just get another for real cheap. Let’s say that your EBay kit goes out every year and let’s say you pay $40 for it, well after 4 years of constantly buying a new HID Kit its costing you $160 which is the price of our premium HID Kit. Wouldn’t it be more convenient if you only had to install on Xenon HID Kit and have it last for 4,5,6,7 years without having any problems?, we think so, which is why we only specialize in higher quality HID Conversion kits. We can get those cheap $30-40 Kits and we even tried selling them for a little while, but what we found was more than 30% of the kits develop a defect within the first 6 months and more than 75% of them fail within the first year. Those are not very good stats. On top of failing so soon, we found that 100% of those kits use a cheaper DC Ballast which are not reliable and run much hotter compared to the newer AC Ballasts. At PhilipsHIDKits.com we only sell premium Digital AC ballast HID Kits. Well what is the difference between AC and DC, especially if they are both digital. The problem is with how electricity is run through a DC kit. It only flows in one direction, the is a problem as the electricity only flows from one side of the bulb which means that one side gets much hotter, this causes the bulb to display hot spots. As these hotspots occur it gradually causes excess wear on that one side fo the bulb and eventually results in failure of the kit. Digital AC Kits run a little different, the electrical current flows in both directions eliminating the excess wear and hot spots in the bulbs. This means they will last longer and run cooler. At PhilipsHIDKits.com we only sell Digital AC Ballasts
What is HID or What is Xenon?
High-intensity discharge lamps (HID lamps also known as Xenon lights) are a type of electrical gas-discharge lamp which produces light by means of an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a translucent or transparent fused quartz or fused alumina arc tube. This tube is filled with both gas and metal salts. The gas facilitates the arc's initial strike. Once the arc is started, it heats and evaporates the metal salts forming a plasma, which greatly increases the intensity of light produced by the arc and reduces its power consumption. High-intensity discharge lamps are a type of arc lamp.
High-intensity discharge lamps make more visible light per unit of electric power consumed than fluorescent and incandescent lamps since a greater proportion of their radiation is visible light in contrast to heat.
What does OEM HID Mean
OEM means, Original Equipment Manufactuer. This means that the specific part was installed when the car was initially made, its the part that was installed by the factory of a automotive manufacturer. When we refer to OEM HID Ballast it means the original HID ballasts that was installed on the vehicle when it was new from the factory. The same thing can be said with our OEM HID Bulbs, they are the same part that was installed when the vehicle was brand new. Typically most OEM HID components will last 4-5 years depending on how much you drive and how much of that driving is at night. Even though most OEM HID components have a typical life of 2000-3000 hours, most of the time they do not reach that time frame. Factors of wear come mostly from on/off cycles versus the total on time. The highest wear occurs when the HID burner is ignited while still hot and before the metallic salts have recrystallized. This will cause excess wear on the bulbs and can decrease the overall time frame the lights should last. Now even though most HID headlights will not make the 3000 hour mark, they still last significantly longer typical automotive halogen bulbs. Most automotive halogen bulbs have a lifespan of about 700 hours and that is assuming the filament does not break. There are many OEM HID companies and we carry most of them: AL Bosch, Denso, Matsushita, Hella, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Stanley, Philips, Osram and Valeo.
